Our Online reporter Joe asked them about the experience... Janine Machin - Breakfast Show presenterWhen the alarm goes off an hour early, you know you're not in for a typical day, and today's been far from typical. Paul and I arrived at the Radio Station at 5am to make sure that everything was in place and that all of the I's were dotted and T's were crossed. By 6:15, we were ready to take Will and Hannah through their show, and at 6:55 we were in the studio watching the red light. I think we were all a little nervous: Will hadn't done anything like this before, and I was very aware that it was up to me to guide him through (which is easier said than done when the microphone's only off for fifteen seconds at a time!) and not run on automatic pilot. Three hours later, after lots of chatting, laughing, and serious concentration (honestly) we handed over to Stuart and had a cup of tea! Would I do it again? Definitely! I thought that Will and Hannah were fantastic: they were natural, relaxed and a pleasure to work with. They'd be welcome back anytime. Will - Breakfast Show co-presenterI woke up at 5:50am, made my way down the stairs and then my mum and I went to pick up Hannah. We then headed for Radio Stoke. We arrived at BBC Radio Stoke at ten past six. Lisa let us in then we went upstairs and I sat down by Janine. We went through what we would be doing in the show. I then rehearsed it. We went down to the studio. We then did the show. Paul - Breakfast Show producerYou’re getting some help, they said... We’ll cut your workload, they said… And for one morning only, our BBC Radio Breakfast Show changed completely! On my side of the glass, there was Hannah, my co-producer for the morning. In the studio was Will. He was Janine’s temporary sidekick and was just as lively and opinionated as presenters who’ve been about for years. Hannah had ideas, she was organised, and, best of all for any producer, she took no nonsense! Will proved he could introduce the records and grill the day’s newsmakers like the best of ‘em. As long as Hannah told him he could, of course. Janine and I made secret about our pre-show nerves. It took us out of our routine and anything could have gone wrong. It didn’t. And, you know what, I think we could be talked into doing it again… Hannah - Breakfast Show co-producerI have had so much fun at Schools Day on BBC Radio Stoke. My job was to produce the Breakfast Show which basically meant bossing Will about! I would love to come back and do this again. Paul and Janine have been really great and have helped me so much to produce the breakfast show. I must say, the only thing that I did not enjoy about today was getting up this morning! I had to be here before 6.30! But it was well worth it. It has been such a great experience and lots and lots of fun! Listen to the team in action...He’s a bit of a political animal is Will – as well as looking into Regeneration in Stoke on Trent, he wanted to talk politics. So who better than our man in Westminster, BBC Political Correspondent Paul Rowley? |
