How things have changed! Some say Terry has been here at Radio Stoke since its inception! Not true! He did, however, arrive here from Nottingham over 30 years ago - in 1974! Since then he's just about presented every programme going - and done every job! But he hasn't always been here - he's left three times...... but always returned! In 1979 he took time out and went to work in America - teaching sport. In 1980 he went off to work in Television for 10 years. Working on such productions as "The Generation Game" - "Jim'll Fix it!" - "Blankety Blank!" - "Wogan!" - and spending 6 years and more travelling around the world Producing and Directing TV coverage of such World championship sports as Rally Driving, Hang Gliding, Windsurfing, Golf and Sailing. He returned in 1990 - again involving himself in all areas of BBC Radio Stoke's programming. AmericaHis third departure occurred in 1992, when he took a year out to return to the United States. There he lived on the beach-front in Hollywood, Florida. However, within days of arriving, the area was hit by Hurricane Andrew - the most destructive American hurricane on record. Within minutes Terry was reporting on the destruction, on all the BBC's services around the world! But wherever he's been, Terry has always maintained a presence in North Staffordshire - which he considers to be his home. He currently lives close to Ash bank, on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands. He loves the area and the people and is proud to say he lives here. When not in his garden (either drinking scotch by the stream, or lazing in the sun), he's out playing squash, scuba diving, or socialising by the bar-b-q! Gardening and historyNowadays, as well as being one of Radio Stoke's stalwarts in terms of keeping the station going, and being one of the top reserves for weekday programmes, he also looks after two very popular specialist programmes at the weekend. Terry hosts the Gardening Phone-in on Sunday mornings, and also the local history programme 'Good Times' on Sunday afternoons. Something tells us that Terry will be here at BBC Radio Stoke for some time to come! last updated: 10/07/2009 at 07:27 SEE ALSOYou are in: Stoke & Staffordshire > Radio Stoke > Presenters > Terry Walsh - a Stoke Stalwart |
