The Future is Fery. Whatever happens today, although a step too far for our plucky Brit, he's raised the spirits of the nation, and the future of British tennis is in safe hands!

    Mandy, Blaenau Ffestiniog

The first set was so crucial. To lose it in that manner was as heartbreaking. Time is running out for Fery, whatever happens he is a future Wimbledon star for life. What he has been able to achieve this year has been nothing shy than sensational. Long may it continue!

Arthur Fery arrived at this year's Wimbledon as wildcard.

He leaves as the new superstar of British tennis.

A Grand Slam semi-finalist, a new career-high of 36th in the world and prize money of £900,000 - what a fortnight for the lad!

Fery laps up the adulation as he walks off court, raising both fists in the air and revelling in the reception.

Disappointment for Britain's Arthur Fery today, but just a reminder that there are 111 ranking places between himself and world number three Alexander Zverev.

Fery was 114th in the world at the start of Wimbledon 2026 and will climb into the top 40 as a result of his memorable run to the semi-finals.

  8. Hewett loses first setpublished at 15:54 BST

    Fernandez 7-6 (7-2) Hewett

There must be something in the air on Court One. Gustavo Fernandez fails to serve out the first set for the second time, as he chucks in two double faults to give Alfie Hewett a lifeline.

That's eight breaks from the first 12 games, four from both men. Fernandez looks nervous, Hewett looks livid.

Hewett himself then catches the double fault bug to hand Fernandez an early advantage in the tie break - and this time he presses it home.

Arthur Fery carries an air of confidence wherever he goes.

And, judging by the wag of his racquet to the British fans, he is not giving up the ghost yet.

He still believes but given how Zverev has served today, you would imagine Fery's remarkable journey will be all over in a matter of minutes.

I really hope Fery can kick on after this tournament because he has proved himself to be a very good tennis player. I look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the future.

This always felt like one step too far, Zverev not even breaking a sweat. But what a run Fery has had, here’s to the next one!

    Peter, Colchester

Honestly, what Fery has shown during this tournament has been an incredible reminder to everyone that just because you are a wildcard, doesn't mean that you aren't able to come out onto a court and not be able to put on a show, he will gain experience through each match!

I think Arthur’s just a little bit outclassed here isn’t he? You meet someone as good as Zverev on form and it’s like hitting a brick wall. Good lesson though.

    Richard, Fleet

The hype and build up for Arthur was so exciting and well deserved. Sadly, we see today why Zverev is seeded two, but Fery can still hold his head high and be truly proud of all he’s achieved this tournament. It’s not over yet though!

Phew! A relieved cheer from Centre Court as Fery ends a run of losing 12 points in a row. That'll feel better.

Nevertheless, one German fan still feels emboldened to shout something in favour of Zverev.

First thing I've heard all afternoon from the Germans.
