Rose out of Wales WXV squad with injury

Wales prop Donna Rose has been forced to withdraw from this month's WXV Global Series fixtures after suffering an ankle injury.

Rose, 35, sustained the injury in training ahead of Wales' opening game against South Africa on Friday, 18 September.

Losing the 42-times-capped Saracens tighthead is a major blow for Wales, while centres Kelsie Webster (hand) and Hanna Tudor (foot) are also ruled out.

Rose missed the entire 2025 Six Nations campaign due to a neck injury, and previously missed a year of her career after snapping her anterior cruciate ligament and tearing her meniscus.

Head coach Sean Lynn has called up Sian Jones (scrum-half) as well as uncapped pair Nia Fajeyisan (wing) and Savannah Picton Powell (centre).

Brython Thunder's Picton Powell was named in Wales' extended 46-player squad, but did not make the 37-player squad named earlier this month.

Gloucester-Hartpury's Jones made her senior Wales debut against Scotland in March of 2024 and has worked with Wales boss Lynn at club level.

After an opening Test against South Africa, Wales host USA on Saturday, 26 September before two Tests against Japan in Tokyo and Kumagaya in October.

All three opponents are ranked above Wales, who have dropped to 13th in the world after nine consecutive Test defeats.
