Welsh Feathers add Carter for World Cup qualifiers

Interim head coach Reinga Bloxham has made one change to the Welsh Feathers squad for World Cup qualifiers in Scotland at the end of this month.

All but one of the 12 players who finished in 10th at this summer's Commonwealth Games have been retained, with Millie Carter the lone change in place of Poppy Tydeman.

Former Cardiff Met student Carter previously won a debut cap against Zimbabwe in November 2025.

LexisNexis Dragons head coach Bloxham served as team manager and specialist coach for Wales in the Commonwealth Games and will be assisted by Sarah Lewis.

Wales dropped from seventh in the world to ninth as a result of their performance at the Games.

They will be the highest-ranked team in their qualifiers as they face Republic of Ireland (21st), Northern Ireland (15th) and Scotland (10th) at the Playsport Arena, East Kilbride from 25 to 27 September.

The top two sides in the qualifiers will secure a spot at the 2027 tournament in Sydney, Australia.

Wales finished ninth at the previous World Cup in 2023 as they beat Scotland 57-42.

They will be seeking revenge for their their 56-47 pool defeat to Scotland at the Commonwealth Games.

The Feathers will again be led by skipper Bethan Partridge (nee Dyke), with fellow Dragons player Leah Middleton as vice-captain.

The squad includes five members of the Dragons squad for the 2026-27 Netball Super League season, along with Phillipa Yarranton who has left the Welsh franchise this summer for fresh opportunities in Australia.
