Antonelli extraordinary as Gasly has superb weekend - driver ratings

Kimi Antonelli pulled off one of the fightbacks of the ages as he fought from 19th on the grid to win the Italian Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old's stunning victory came after he caught and passed his team-mate George Russell with three laps to go.

Russell, who had started second and battled for the lead with Antonelli earlier in the race before holding on to first until the closing stages, is now 66 points behind in the drivers' championship.

Meanwhile, it was a difficult day for Ferrari in front of the tifosi, with Charles Leclerc enduring a high-speed crash at the Parabolica early on while Lewis Hamilton was forced to settle for sixth.

Here are my ratings for how the drivers performed across the whole weekend in Monza.

Kimi Antonelli - 10/10

What more could you ask for? Started 19th because of an engine penalty and sliced his way through the field to win his home Grand Prix. A trip through the gravel while hunting Russell was the only scare in an otherwise extraordinary drive.

George Russell - 9/10

Fastest in both FP2 and FP3, missed pole by just 0.060 seconds and led a huge chunk of the race. The strategy ultimately swung things Antonelli's way but Russell hardly put a foot wrong himself.

Max Verstappen - 8.5/10

Another very strong Sunday after Red Bull struggled more over one lap. Briefly led the race and fought hard with both Mercedes drivers before bringing home a podium despite reporting problems with the rear of the car.

Lando Norris - 7.5/10

Qualifying ninth wasn't where Norris wanted to be as McLaren struggled with its brakes, but he recovered well on Sunday. Beat Piastri in their late fight to take fourth and continued his strong run of form.

Oscar Piastri - 6.5/10

The speed was clearly there with third in qualifying, but the penalty for impeding Lawson dropped him back on the grid. He fought forwards throughout the race but ultimately lost out to Norris late on.

Lewis Hamilton - 7.5/10

A much better weekend than sixth place suggests. Quick throughout practice and almost identical to Leclerc in qualifying, before being forced into the gravel during their first lap fight and having to recover from outside the points.

Pierre Gasly - 9.5/10

One of the performances of the season on Saturday to put an Alpine in pole position on pure pace. He simply didn't have the race speed to keep the quicker cars behind on Sunday, but seventh still completed a superb weekend.

Arvid Lindblad - 8.5/10

Another hugely impressive rookie weekend. Qualified in the top 10 and then converted it into eighth place, comfortably leading Racing Bulls home and once again showing he belongs at this level.

Franco Colapinto - 7.5/10

Excellent qualifying to put the Alpine eighth but overshadowed by Gasly. Even found himself running fourth after the red flag. A big trip through the gravel cost him heavily, but recovering all the way back to ninth salvaged a deserved points finish.

Yuki Tsunoda - 6.5/10

A much tougher weekend than Zandvoort, particularly with 17th in qualifying while Lindblad reached Q3. Recovered nicely to score the final point, although lining up incorrectly for the restart was an unnecessary blemish.

Gabriel Bortoleto - 7/10

Missed Q3 by just one thousandth of a second and again had the edge over Audi team-mate Hulkenberg. Just missed out on the points on Sunday but there wasn't much wrong with his weekend.

Nico Hulkenberg - 6/10

Couldn't quite match Bortoleto in qualifying or the race. He remained in the fringes of the points fight but ultimately finished behind his team-mate in 12th.

Carlos Sainz - 6/10

Williams never looked particularly comfortable at Monza. Sainz at least made Q2 and brought the car home in 13th, but there was little opportunity to make an impact further up the order.

Liam Lawson - 7/10

A difficult weekend to judge given the grid penalty and subsequent pit-lane start. His qualifying was also hurt when Piastri impeded him, so fighting back to 14th was a respectable effort on his second successive weekend at Red Bull.

Oliver Bearman - 6/10

There were encouraging signs from Haas' major upgrade and Bearman looked strong on Friday. Twelfth in qualifying was solid but slipping to 15th on Sunday meant the promising pace didn't translate into points.

Esteban Ocon - 5/10

Always looked to be facing a difficult weekend without the same upgraded Ferrari power unit as Bearman. Qualified behind his team-mate and finished behind him too in a fairly anonymous race.

Alex Albon - 5.5/10

His qualifying was compromised by both an engine penalty and helping Sainz with a tow. Made a little progress from the back on Sunday but Williams simply didn't have enough pace for him to get much further.

Sergio Perez - 4.5/10

Another difficult weekend for Cadillac, although Perez at least beat Bottas in the race. Started near the back and never really threatened to make meaningful progress.

Valterri Bottas - 4/10

Out-qualified Perez but slipped behind him during the Grand Prix and finished two laps down. Cadillac remained well off the midfield throughout the weekend.

Lance Stroll - 3.5/10

Qualified last and there was little to suggest Aston Martin had the pace to achieve much more. A hydraulics problem eventually brought a miserable weekend to an early end.

Fernando Alonso - 4/10

Aston Martin's lack of performance made this almost impossible from the outset. Qualified 21st, started from the pit lane after power unit changes and eventually retired with car damage.

Charles Leclerc - 4/10

A weekend that promised so much after topping first practice unravelled almost immediately on Sunday. His opening lap battle with Hamilton was too aggressive and then he lost the Ferrari at Parabolica on lap two to bring his home race to a spectacular early end.
