Analysis: Davis proves vital once again

Leif Davis has been a stalwart for Ipswich since the League One days. Now, he doesn't look out of place in the best league in the world.

His game at Selhurst Park got off to a nightmare start when Anan Khalaili's attempt deflected off his foot and into the back of Kjell Scherpen's goal.

Instead of letting his head drop, Davis took the game into his own hands and delivered a pinpoint cross to Emersonn, who levelled the score.

Davis continued on the front foot and combined excellently with Jack Clarke on the left flank to pin Khalaili and Chris Richards in their own half, stifling Palace of chances for large parts of the match.

The high-flying full-back then made one of his trademark runs into the box and found himself on the end of Emersonn's attempt at goal, nodding home effortlessly to put the Tractor Boys into the lead.

Today's goal and assist mean the 26-year-old has already equalled the amount of goal involvements he managed in the entirety of his previous Premier League campaign (three).

If Davis can maintain his level for the rest of the season, Gary O'Neil's side have a real chance of avoiding the drop.
