'Patient' Davies finally lands Millar for Blues

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies admits that the season-long signing of Canada international striker Liam Millar is one that has been on his wish list for some while.

Millar's deadline-day arrival from Hull City was actually announced mid-match on a mad night at St Andrew's while Blues were drawing 1-1 with Southampton.

After trailing at half-time, Davies was pleased to get a point which might have been more had his side taken their chances - but he was even more pleased to finally link up with 26-year-old Millar.

"I've been a big admirer of Liam Millar for a long time," Davies told BBC Radio WM. "I've tried to get him in a few transfer windows now - but never been able to.

"He's a player with a lot of experience of this league. We've had to be patient and finally we've got him. And the fact that he's coming to us says a lot, as he had a lot of options."

Although record signing Jay Stansfield missed two great chances - and is still to score this season - Davies was still very pleased at the way he links up with target man August Priske.

"He was exceptional," said Davies. "His energy and pressing.

"He makes that one chance for himself out of nothing but is unlucky to hit the post. And then his glancing header? Another day that goes in.

"He and August worked well together. August's trajectory in the last six months has been excellent. He made life so difficult for those two centre backs."

Priske's first league goal of the campaign proved enough to earn Blues their second point in successive home games to take into Sunday's derby with Wolves, who have won on their last three visits to St Andrew's.
