  1. Eng 106-4published at 31 overs

    Lead by 286

Pakistan are clearly trying to target Dan Lawrence on the pads, but that does come with risk, too. Khurram Shahzad bowls a little too straight, and Lawrence effortlessly whips it away for four.

  2. Eng 99-4published at 30 overs

    Lead by 279

Dan Lawrence defends the three remaining balls of Abbas' over.

The way the pitch is playing, and knowing how aggressive Brook and Lawrence like to be, you'd assume that they'll try to kick on quickly now. Get the lead over 300 and get bowling as soon as you can.

Let's not even bother thinking about what the forecast might be for later. We'll just see what happens, shall we?

    Good news.

We'll be restarting in five minutes' time!

    This is so silly.

It's so windy that everything's blown over quite quickly so the umpires are already back out there having a chat, and the sheet covers are gone.

  6. Postpublished at 15:04 BST

    Yeah, it's properly bucketing down.

And based on what we saw in that 38 minutes of play, it certainly feels like England's lead of 279 is enough. It was close to unplayable.

Deliveries pitched up by the seamers have caused a lot of trouble for the batters in this Test and across this series.

Of all the Test series (2+ matches) hosted in England in our database (since 2006), this series' 17.8 average is the lowest of all with these fuller-pitched deliveries.

Deliveries fuller than 6m in this series

    • Headingley - 14 wickets at 16.6 average
    • Lord's - 9 wickets at 19.7 average
    • Overall - 23 wickets at 17.8 average

The global average for deliveries pitched up in England in the last 20 overs is 33.5, almost double of the tally in this series. Just pitch it up and let the conditions do the rest for you!

It's very, very grey and gloomy now. A few umbrellas are going up.

Yep, too high going over leg stump.

  14. Pakistan reviewpublished at 29 overs

Harry Brook is struck on the pad by yet another delivery that nips back a mile off the seam.

It looks high but Pakistan want another look.

Sad that Test matches should be played on non-standard wickets at Lord's and none at Headingley or Old Trafford!

The MCC would have been watching the Gay scuttler with a shudder.

Wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan is not having a happy time of it out there either.

  17. Eng 97-4published at 28 overs

Yeah, you've got to feel for Emilio Gay.

Grinds out 31 off 70 balls in some of the toughest conditions he'll ever face, and gets that.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Rizwan has been struck on his jaw just underneath the helmet while taking one up to the stumps - he's thankfully fine, but just has a quick check from the physio.

That was a stinker of a delivery from Muhammad Abbas to dismiss Emilio Gay. The low bounce nature from a good length made that unplayable.

Of all deliveries pitching in that region in this Test, the average bounce height at stumps has been around 87.8cms.

That Gay wicket delivery was more than 65% lower at around 30 cm - can't get more unplayable than that.

Based on our expected wickets (xWkts) model that delivery had a 26% chance of dismissing a batter based on all the ball-tracking data, the second-highest of all deliveries in this Test after the Cox dismissal (30%) earlier in this innings.

Nice. Good use of the feet from Harry Brook. That is the way you can try and counterattack the swing and extravagant swing and seam. Get out and meet it.

This could be an entertaining kind of knock from Harry Brook.
