Hampshire teenage pace bowler Manny Lumsden says he's "grateful for the experience" after making his T20 first-team breakthrough this summer.

The 17-year-old has played in three of the Hawks' matches as they sit top of the Vitality Blast table with three wins from four games so far.

His Hawks T20 debut came in a humbling seven-wicket opening-match defeat away to holders Somerset last month.

"That didn't go to plan, but I learned a lot from it" he told BBC Radio Solent. "I'm just grateful to have had the experience.

"I can take a few things forward, and learnings, and that's why I've bowled better since."

Lumsden went for 19 runs in his one over at Taunton, including being hit for two sixes and one four - but he had only arrived two minutes before the game started.

"The train service basically failed," he said. "It was a bit stressful but you can't do it much about it."

The England Under-19 international wasn't selected for the Hawks' second match, a 30-run home victory over Essex, but bounced back with two wickets in their five-wicket home win over Surrey.

He took the scalps of England internationals Sam Curran and Ollie Pope for just eight.

He said: "That really settled the nerves down a lot. I was thinking of flashbacks to that Somerset game but after I got that first wicket I felt really good."

Lumsden added the wicket of Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy to his haul in Sunday's comprehensive eight-wicket win at Lords and says he's feeling at home at this level now.

"I think I'm quite a relaxed character, trusting the work I do off the pitch in training, and have to put full faith in that during the game," he said. "I think that's working for me at the moment."

Lumsden, son of Bath Rugby player Audley Lumsden, joined the Hampshire Academy in 2023.

He made his List-A Hampshire debut in August 2025 as a 16-year-old, taking three of Glamorgan's top five batters in a 72-run victory in the One Day Cup.

Manny says Hampshire T20 captain James Vince and the rest of the bowlers are all helping him settle into the first-team environment.

"Everyone has really good communication, bowlers letting each other know what works. Vincey is great just stood at mid-off, has obviously played so many games and is just so experienced. Daws [Liam Dawson] as well, just all the team really."

Hampshire welcome bottom side Sussex to the Utilita Bowl on Tuesday night (19:00 BST).
