Gammon among three new Glamorgan pro contracts

Batter Bethan Gammon has joined Glamorgan women's professional ranks as the county prepares for Tier One status in 2027.

The 25-year-old from Pontypridd has signed a contract with the Welsh side along with all-rounder Bethan Ellis and batter/wicketkeeper Abbey Freeborn, who have been on loan from Warwickshire over the last two seasons.

They join captain Lauren Parfitt as Glamorgan's first full-time female players.

Gammon has been a first-choice since the establishment of the county side in 2025.

She is vice-captain of the team, and led them in their first ever game with captain Parfitt injured at the time.

They have won the second-tier T20, with Gammon top-scoring in the final against Gloucestershire, and are in the semi-final of the One Day Cup for League Two.

Gammon made her Wales debut in 2017 and played for the Western Storm regional side as well as appearing for the Nottingham-based Blaze and an England Development team.

She has been working for Glamorgan as an academy coach.

"It's a huge honour to be signing my first professional contract with Glamorgan," said Gammon.

"The work that the staff and club have put in over the past two years has been incredible.

"There is a real buzz around the club and what started as an exciting prospect for the club in 2025 is now turning into a reality of having a professional women's team in Wales."

Glamorgan's head of women and girls cricket, Aimee Rees, added:

"I am delighted that Bethan is going to realise her dream of becoming a full-time professional cricketer.

"She has been a consistent and outstanding performer for Glamorgan over the last two seasons, while we have been working towards our transition to Tier One.

"Her match-winning innings in the T20 Blast final at Sophia Gardens was a perfect example of her ability to perform under pressure and deliver when it matters most."

Birmingham-born Ellis, 27, has been on Warwickshire's books for 12 seasons but has made nine appearances for Glamorgan this season.

Freeborn, 29, is originally from Sussex and has hit two centuries in her three One Day Cup outings for Glamorgan this year.
