World record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania had surgery on a torn pectoral muscle in March, and has done well to reach the final given his injuries.

But he's clearly still not at full power. Alekna's best effort from the first three throws, 61.78m, is not enough to get him into the top eight - meaning he is out of medal contention.

Time for 10th of the 10 disciplines in the decathlon - it's the 1500m.

Germany's Leo Neugebauer leads the way with 7920 points, leading compatriot Niklas Kaul (7766) and Norway's Sander Skotheim (7662).

Kaul topped the standings in the javelin earlier in this session, moving into the medal places.

20 athletes are in the field for this - Kaul needs to beat Neugebauer by 22 seconds to take gold.

Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh is scorching the field in the men's discus.

The reigning champion extends his championship record, which he set two throws earlier, with an effort of 72.51m.

Italy's Dariya Derkach extends her lead, reaching 14.60 metres with her fourth jump of six.

That's the best effort by any European competitor this year, and may well be enough for gold.

Defending champion Kristjan Ceh, wearing chunky goggles due to his poor eyesight, has set a huge marker with his opening throw.

The Slovenian launches an effort of 70.83m, a championship record. That will take some beating.

Erika Saraceni, in only her second competition of the year after hernia surgery, topped qualifying with a PB of 14.50m.

However the young Italian has endured a nightmare, and was 12th of 12 contenders after three attempts, with just 13.48m.

That puts Saraceni out of medal contention.

After three of a possible six attempts in the women's triple jump final, Italy's Dariya Derkach leads with a distance of 14.53 metres.

Derkach, the 2023 European indoor silver medallist, is at the head of what we expected to be a very open field - and so it is proving.

Aleksandra Nacheva of Bulgaria is currently second, with a best effort of 14.40m.

Great Britain's Elise Thorner, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was gutting to see Lea [Meyer] fall as I know her quite well. Shocking to see and trying to get over was a bit mad. I was pretty spent with 200m to go.

"I tried to make a push with 600m to go and I got gapped. Trying to readjust the gameplan...Overall, I am thrilled to have a new learning experience.

"To come in with a lot of pressure was also just a privilege. I am used to this [weather] - I went to university in the States and it was hot. That was my kind of race.

"I need to go back to my coach and see why I didn't finish high up as I wanted. Honestly, I loved being out there."

On family support in the stands: "It is so amazing. First home champs to have them here is so special."

It's another field final now with the men's discus ready to go.

Meanwhile three-time world champion Daniel Stahl of Sweden has surprisingly only won one European medal – silver in 2018. He came fourth in 2024 and has twice finished fifth.

A really disappointing result for Elise Thorner, who ran out of gas on the final lap.

Gesa Felicitas Krause of Germany, who was one of the leading pack from the off, held her nerve to win gold ahead of the 2024 champion Alice Finot. The French athlete takes silver.

It's bronze for Germany too, as Olivia Gurth kicks late to snatch bronze away from Thorner.

Lea Meyer, one of the leading pack throughout, took a heavy fall into the water on the final turn. Thankfully she got straight back up so no serious injury there, we hope.
