José Cifuentes has returned to Rangers at the end of his loan to Toronto after the Major League Soccer club decided not to trigger their option to buy the midfielder.

The 27-year-old made 17 appearances, 16 of them starts, scoring one goal and recorded four assists for the side who finished 12th in the Eastern Conference and 25th overall.

However, he missed the final four games of the season with a knee injury.

The Ecuador international joined Rangers from Los Angeles in 2023 but fell out of favour after 20 appearances and has since had loans with Cruzeiro in Brazil, Aris Salonika in Greece and then Canada.

Cifuentes is entering the final year of his contract with the Scottish Premiership club.
