Irene had little experience of publicly speaking before applying to be The Speaker.

Irene hopes to go to university to study English Literature.
Irene comes from a noisy family and is one of four girls.
Irene is passionate about music and plays violin, piano and sings in a choir.
She is a determined supporter of Fairtrade, having originally got involved with the concept through her local church.
Irene has also supported the cause through her school, including setting up a blind chocolate-tasting session.
Irene first impressed the judges by speaking about the plight of refugees in her application speech.
The topic had caught her interest having seen the poor treatment of Polish immigrants where she lives.
Irene reached the final of The Speaker.
