Toxic wildfire haze spreads across South East Asia

The UN has warned that the world has entered a "danger zone of extreme weather" as the impacts of El Niño start to be felt globally. As wildfires in South East Asia continue, a blanket of toxic haze is enveloping parts of Indonesia and spreading into Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. We hear from our reporter in the region and speak to our climate experts. After a record 250 days at sea without a port stop, the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has docked in Thailand, giving its nearly 5,000 crew members a much-needed break. More than 80 people were killed between October 2025 and July this year following false accusations about what is termed "genital theft" across several African countries.
