Actress Ruth Madeley: Hitting Hollywood and playing Judy Heumann

Access All: Disability News and Mental Health

Available for over a year

UK actress Ruth Madeley might be a familiar face on your TV screens, but now she's become a Hollywood leading lady - and we're so excited! Ruth plays Judy Heumann, mother of the US disability rights movement, in the film Being Heumann, alongside four-time Oscar-nominated, Mark Ruffalo. It follows Judy as she leads the longest sit-in in a government building to ensure disabled people were given the rights to be included in society and no longer discriminated against, from the implementation of ramps into federal buildings to being able to attend mainstream school and kerb cuts. With Hollywood, comes glamour, so we also hear about the top fashion designers now vying to have Ruth wear their clothes and the intimacy co-ordinators who ensured all those sexy scenes were done just so. How would you feel if AI touched up a photo to make you look “normal”? It happened to Rhiannon, who has a facial difference, so BBC Wales investigated the extent of the problem. And listen out for a heads up on a new podcast on the UK disability rights movement. Presented and produced by Emma Tracey Series producer and presenter's friend is Beth Rose Studio manager is Jonny Hall Sound design is Mike Regaard Editor is Damon Rose
