Syston volunteers clear debris from local waterway

Volunteers in a Leicestershire town have taken advantage of low water levels to clear debris from a local waterway in an effort to prevent future flooding in the area. Homes and businesses in Syston suffered devastating winter floods in January 2024 and 2025. 19 people from Syston have grabbed shovels and wheelbarrows to clear the centre of the river of the silt which gathered over the past year. They also filled 20 bins with green waste and bags full of litter. Janette Hick from the Syston Community Flood Group spoke to BBC Leicester's Ady Dayman.
