Emancipation 1838: and the creation of African Caribbean families remembered - Berkshire

Louise Chandler

Available for over a year

‘We must take a leaf out of the Jewish people’s experience and remember the journey’: the Windrush Foundation is preparing a Heritage Lottery funded event to mark the 175 anniversary of emancipation day. The films Django Unchained and Lincoln have brought part of the history alive on the big screen, and here in the UK the 1st August will mark its own remembrance. The Project director Arthur Torrington tells BBC Berkshire’s Louise Chandler what it signifies in the modern day.
