Stalin’s Apostles is a radical, new look at how the treachery of the spies in the Cambridge Five – Donald Maclean, Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, John Cairncross and Anthony Blunt - contributed to the building of Stalin’s ‘Red Empire’. It explores how these five men allowed their obsession with Communist ideology to overshadow any sense of morality and decency as they fed Stalin with secrets over a period of 17 years. Using recently declassified files, the book focuses particularly on the fate of the people of eastern and central Europe who were caught behind the Iron Curtain. It’s the late 1930s and tensions in Europe are rising. The Cambridge Five’s commitment to communism is severely tested when Stalin signs a shocking pact with Hitler.
