Alex Humphreys presents an afternoon of exclusive music-making from the UK and beyond, with performances captured at two major European festivals. From the Baltic Sea Festival, we hear early music performed by the award-winning period-instrument ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro, joined by countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński. Soprano Malin Byström joins the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra for music by Alma Mahler. Elsewhere in the Baltic region, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Olari Elts perform Brahms’s expansive Third Symphony and Kodály’s colourful Suite from Háry János, featuring cimbalom. From the East Neuk Festival, the Calidore Quartet perform Barber’s haunting Adagio for Strings, followed by Schubert’s much-loved Trout Quintet, with pianist Christian Zacharias, the Cuarteto Quiroga and double bassist Ander Perrino Cabello.
