Bobby Friction sits in and chats to British Asian singer Sheila Chandra about her career to date and the forthcoming release of her album Echo. Sheila Chandra as a South London born singer and composer who rose to fame as Monsoon in the early 1980s. Her work has moved from the raga-influenced pop of Monsoon into a radical solo language built around voice, drone and vocal traditions from across the world. The new album Echo was assembled after an extensive search for surviving concert, TV and radio-session recordings from across her performing career, with Chandra selecting the performances herself. The title Echo loosely references the nymph of Greek myth who lost the ability to speak in her own voice.
