When Def Leppard scored a Transatlantic number 1 hit with 1987's Hysteria, it was more of a surprise that they even existed as a band at all. 1983's Pyromania had given them the mainstream success they'd been so hungry for, but the following three years saw them experiencing every kind of crisis imaginable, and some that no-one could have predicted, including the accident which cost drummer Rick Allen his left arm. But the Sheffield rock band overcame all the hurdles, and returned with an album that redefined the sound of rock for the 80s, a sleek shiny rock monster that would take them to heights undreamed of.
