An Encyclopedia of The Cure

Stephen McCauley

Available for 29 days

Stephen talks to music journalist Simon Price about his encyclopedia of The Cure, Curepedia. In 1999, Simon Price wrote the definitive book about the Manic Street Preachers, Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers). His new book, Curepedia, is an encyclopedia of one of the most singular bands in music history. In a career that has spanned fifty years and fourteen studio albums, The Cure have created a uniquely influential body of work. Led by the iconic Robert Smith and cited by everyone from The Deftones and Olivia Rodrigo to Mogwai and Tim Burton as a key influence, their songs perfectly crystalise love, loss and anxiety with a playful melancholy. To be Cure fan is to be part of one of the most distinctive music tribes there has ever been. Stephen and Simon discuss the book and also explore the reasons for the Cure’s enduring significance in music culture. They also listen to a few outstanding moments from The Cure’s back catalogue.
