From Monday to Thursday this week, Soweto is joined by pioneering British saxophonist Mark Lockheart. As well as his work with future-facing ensembles like Loose Tubes, Polar Bear, and most recently his Shapeshifters trio, Mark has collaborated with artists including Nikki Iles, John Patitucci, and Kenny Wheeler. Mark is widely celebrated for his explorative musical approach, and his latest album "Shapeshifter" is out now. This week, Mark is sharing some of the records that have helped inspire his musical journey so far. To begin his week, Mark selects an album by a seminal piano and saxophone duo. Also in the programme, there is music from Ambrose Akinmusire, David Kayode, and Ángela Quiralte. ‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch.
