Do women eat less on a date with a man they fancy?
A 1987 paper revealed that women eat less in front of a desirable male partner in order to present themselves as being more feminine.
According to the hypothesis, this is because both women and men believe it to be a feminine attribute to eat less.

We sent six single ladies on a date with Mr Right and filmed a perfectly pleasant evening. Four days later we repeated the experiment, this time with Mr Totally Wrong and kept our eyes firmly fixed on their plates.

On both dates we fed them an identical meal and examined the leftovers to see whether women in 2007 are still conscious about what they eat in front of the man they fancy.
After one dream date, one nightmare date and two, three course meals our results showed that, on average, the women did not eat any less food on the first date than they did on the second.
