The US announces new sanctions on the International Criminal Court.

The International Criminal Court is the body that prosecutes the world's most serious atrocities.

The United States is imposing new financial sanctions on the International Criminal Court, escalating its campaign against the body that prosecutes the world's most serious crimes. The announcement comes hours after a former ICC judge, Navi Pillay, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. We talk to Amnesty International's Secretary General about the new American sanctions against the ICC.

Also in the programme: an expert on capital punishment gives us his take on the US' announcement it will livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the US Army major who shot and killed 13 soldiers in 2009; and we hear about a new species of waterlily discovered in the rainforest of Colombia.
