Al-Shabaab suffers defeat in Somalia

The militant group Al-Shabaab is on the back foot after an attack by combined national army forces and US drones.

Reports from Somalia say Al-Shabaab is on the back foot after combined attacks by the National Somali army, local militias and US drone strikes. The US Africa Command said it killed 27 fighters in the central Hiraan region.

The WHO says that the Ebola virus outbreak in Uganda was detected late. Preliminary investigations suggest that patient zero could have developed symptoms in August.

Former Guinean dictator Moussa Dadis Camara and several co-defendants have appeared in court on the first day of an important case involving a stadium massacre and mass rapes perpetrated in 2009. Also in court watching proceedings is the current chief Prosecutor of the International criminal court Karim Khan.
