The ghostly dog that haunts a Lincoln pub
The dog belonged to a hanged prisoner at Lincoln Castle and is said to be heard in a nearby inn searching for its master.
In the former jail in the grounds of Lincoln Castle is a glass case containing a taxidermied lurcher dog. It belonged to William Clarke, a prisoner at the jail and the last man to be hanged at the castle, in 1877.
The dog is said to haunt the nearby Strugglers Inn, where people claim to have felt a presence around their legs and heard the sound of a dog scratching on a door, as if searching for its master.
As Josh Stayton finds out, it’s one of many ghostly tales associated with the Castle.
