'Widespread expectation' of Starmer's resignation
Senior government figures expect Sir Keir Starmer to announce both his resignation and a plan to hand over to his successor as soon as this morning.
Speaking to Nick Robinson, the BBC's chief political correspondent Henry Zeffman says the prime minister's resignation is the "widespread expectation", but "that is not the same as knowing that it is going to happen".
On the speed of any handover to another leader - which many assume could be a "coronation" of newly-elected MP Andy Burnham rather than a leadership contest - Henry says senior figures would like Burnham to be in place "by September".
