A Great Glen Washout: one year on
Heather Macdermid's home in Great Glen was seriously affected by the floods a year ago. She’s been documenting the process of bringing it back to a habitable state after she woke up to find her home and property awash with floodwater in January 2025.
The process has taken many months. She moved back into her home just a few weeks ago.
According to research from the BBC’s shared data unit, more than 900 properties were affected in floods that covered large parts of Leicester and Leicestershire in January last year.
BBC Leicester’s Ben Jackson caught up with Heather who's now safely back home and hoping for a very different year.
