Lancashire: Two Schools, Two Perspectives

As part of our coverage of 100 seats in the 100 days, our reporter Sanchia Berg went to visit schoolchildren in two neighbouring constituencies, Wyre and Preston North and Blackpool South, in the North West.

In a less affluent Blackpool School, fewer than half of the pupils said they would vote. One student said “my mum’s a single parent so she doesn’t get a lot of money…we used to struggle to find places where we could all go”. They said they aren’t interested in politics.

In Wyre and Preston North, pupils were more aware of the differences between political parties and almost all of them would vote.

Less than 7% of them lived in poverty and these students have more immediate concerns. “A zebra crossing outside the school … could really make a difference here”, said one school girl.
