Modigliani Quartet live from Wigmore Hall
Elizabeth Alker showcases live performance and exclusive concerts from home and abroad, including the Modigliani Quartet playing music by César Franck live in Wigmore Hall, London.
All week, Elizabeth Alker celebrates the vivid storytelling and sweeping orchestral melodies of the symphonic tone poem. Today, we hear from a composer who helped to establish the genre, Franz Liszt, as well as two defining tone poems, Sergey Rachmaninov’s The Isle of the Dead and Richard Strauss’s Don Juan.
Also, we’ll hear exclusive recordings from the world’s largest festival of classical song, the Oxford International Song Festival, with music sung by BBC New Generation Artist Andrew Hamilton.
But first, our featured artist this week is the Modigliani Quartet, and we’ll begin with a live performance of César Franck’s only string quartet from Wigmore Hall in London.
