Radiant incantations

Jennifer Lucy Allan serves up wonderfully wonky sounds for adventurous ears, from Finnish free jazz and Pakistani raags to spoken-word chamber pop and leftfield opera.

Gather round for your weekly dose of wonderfully wonky sounds for adventurous ears with Jennifer Lucy Allan. Expect tumbling Finnish free jazz from the group Fågelbörs, scrambled spoken-word chamber pop by Copenhagen’s Matilda Tjäder, previously unheard raags from legendary Pakistani kyhal singer Salamat Ali Khan, and an incantation for ‘having had enough’ courtesy of sound poet and New York ‘yoga punk’ Beth Anderson.

Plus a couple of selections inspired by the line-up for the upcoming London Contemporary Music Festival, including leftfield opera and a sliver of Tony Conrad’s long-string drone.
