300 Years of St Martin-in-the-Fields
Today’s Sunday Worship comes from the heart of London, marking 300 years of St Martin-in-the-Fields’ remarkable church building, designed by the celebrated architect James Gibbs and consecrated in 1726.
For three centuries, this iconic church in Trafalgar Square has been much more than a place of worship. It has been a place of welcome, encounter, creativity and social action - a place from which new ideas, initiatives and organisations have emerged, reaching far beyond its walls.
Led by the Revd Dr Sam Wells, the service will reflect on the legacy of James Gibbs and the vision, faith and generosity that have shaped St Martin’s through the centuries. The service includes reflections from organisations whose stories began hat St Martin's, and explores what it means for a church to be a place where new possibilities are born and where faith finds expression in action.
With music from St Martin’s Voices, directed by Andrew Earis, with organist Gavin Roberts.
