Bollywood, Bhangra, and Brass Bands

Bollywood tradition meets brass bands in Erollyn Wallen’s Gold Saturday. French composer Thierry Deleruyelle commemorates the worst mining disaster in history with his piece Fraternity. Music journalist Iwan Fox talks about his love of brass bands, a genre he has dedicated his life to through his work with online magazine 4barsrest. He talks about the sense of identity associated with the community, and recommends one of his favourite pieces.

Throughout the series, composer and ex-Youth Bander Hannah Peel plays a mix of inspiring brass music from across the globe, and meets today’s passionate banders as she goes behind their bandrooms.
