3pm Building a Library: The writer and former Director of the BBC Proms and the Barbican Centre, Sir Nicholas Kenyon joins Andrew to survey recordings of Mozart's Horn Concertos, and make a top recommendation.
Mozart's four horn concertos are amongst his best-loved works. Made popular by a famous recording by the legendary Dennis Brain, aswell as a rendition by Flanders and Swann, the discography includes performances on natural as well as modern horns. The concertos were written for his friend, the cheese merchant Joseph Ignaz Leutgeb and Mozart littered the manuscripts with jokes and insults at his friend's' expense. Despite this, the two seem to have remained friends for life and it indeed Leutgeb who helped Mozart's wife, Constanze to organise Mozart’s manuscripts after his untimely death.
c3.45pm Record of the Week: the new release that has most impressed Andrew this week.
