Conductor Marin Alsop on pioneering from the podium

Tom Service with guests, stories and the perfect classical soundtrack for the weekend!

Tom talks to the trailblazing American conductor Marin Alsop. As the first woman to head major orchestras in the US, South America, Austria and UK, she speaks to Tom about how far things have come for women on the podium but why there's further still to go. Ahead of concerts in the UK this week, she also talks about where America currently is culturally and why the music of her great mentor Leonard Bernstein still means so much to her.
