In October 2025, thousands of Kenyans packed Nairobi's Kasarani Stadium to pay their final respects to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. But as tensions flared near the VIP section, gunfire erupted inside the stadium.
Three men, all fathers never made it home.
BBC Africa Eye analysed more than 1,500 photos and videos, alongside post-mortem evidence and eyewitness testimony, to reconstruct the deadly events of that day. Creating a 3D replica of the stadium, our investigation finds the three victims were far from the confrontation that preceded the shooting and traces the movements of a specialist VIP police protection unit whose members fired their weapons inside the stadium.
