Dressed for Success

A spiritual comment and prayer to start the day with Jo Moir

A spiritual comment and prayer to start the day with Jo Moir

Good Morning.

There’s a suit hanging in my wardrobe, I bought it from a charity shop when I was a student- it’s made of wool and has a lovely cut. It has a silk lining and beautiful cuffs. It’s great to look at. It’s the kind of suit I thought would make me a success when I graduated. It’s what the world told me I would need to wear, designed to make me look the part, stand out, meet the sartorial standards of society-but here’s the thing. It’s just a suit.

There were other more important qualities I needed to learn to dress myself in first, clothes I’m still learning to pick up every morning; honesty, kindness, compassion, grace, fairness… you might have a list like that too. A list of characteristics you know you want to be dressed in every day, the ones that last, the ones that make a real impact.

Today I am focusing on those who work in the sphere of business. In commerce, finance, property and retail that they might have wisdom, be free from corruption, act with integrity and be clothed in compassion. That our business practices might be based not just on profit but on caring for our colleagues and protecting the planet for the next generation.

So Today I pray that those in Business will be blessed with all the characteristics they need to be efficient, effective, ethical and just in their practices. That compassion may be the cornerstone of our working life. In Jesus name.

Amen

Now you can’t hang it in the wardrobe with my old suit but imagine the impact if we all wore compassion everyday.

Bless you!
