Sitar serenades and the Bulgarian tambura
Lopa Kothari presents folk and roots-based music from around the world, including tracks from sitar virtuoso Jasdeep Singh Degun and the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra.
Lopa Kothari presents the latest in her ongoing explorations of global folk and roots-based music. Traditional Anatolian sounds are reimagined with a modern, free-spirited approach on the debut album from Turkish-Danish vocalist and songwriter Hilal Kaya, and we hear a track from Leeds-born sitar virtuoso Jasdeep Singh Degun ahead of his performance at this year’s Darbar Festival. Plus, a concert recording from the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra celebrating the tambura, the long-necked plucked string instrument traditional to Bulgaria.
