4. Matthew Todd's in his 50s

Journalist, activist and writer Matthew Todd talks about self-acceptance in his 50s. Alienated from masculinity in his youth, Matthew is finally finding his feet as a man.

What’s it like to be a man in your 50s? In Episode 4 of Michael Rosen’s series about manhood and masculinity, journalist, activist and writer Matthew Todd talks about his experience.
Matthew grew up feeling completely alienated from traditional masculinity. As a young gay man growing up during the HIV crisis of the 1980s, he felt the homophobia of mainstream culture deeply and developed a fear of straight men. But after decades of mental health problems and alcohol addiction, he finally was able to address his trauma. And now has found a new sense of himself as a man.
