Bayeux Tapestry

With the Bayeux Tapestry being displayed in Britain for the first time in almost a thousand years, Joe Crowley and Tom Heap are in East Sussex to discover what traces of this extraordinary story can still be found in the landscape today.

Joe explores how the boats that carried the Norman army are still being built in East Sussex using traditional methods and investigates the region's flourishing vineyards, a feature of the landscape at the time of the conquest. Tom meets a farmer rearing descendants of the native long-horned red cattle depicted in the tapestry and walks the battlefield from both Norman and Saxon perspectives, examining how the terrain shaped the course of the conflict.
