Yazmin Lacey takes over the Trunk of Funk as we continue to mark Music Is Black, the BBC-wide celebration of Black British music and culture, in partnership with V&A East in London. The East London-born singer, whose voice you’ll also know from Ezra Collective’s ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’, picks the records for this week’s Trunk of Funk.

Our 1976 Funk & Soul Gold Album comes from Aquarian Dream, put together and produced by jazz drummer Norman Connors, blending soul, funk and R&B with the powerhouse vocals of Gloria Jones.

And the Funk & Soul Family Tree heads into the 80s, tracing the rise of British soul and boogie through Central Line, Linx, Loose Ends, Sade and Soul II Soul, as a homegrown sound found audiences around the world.
