Troubled Town
Why has anti-social behaviour by young people become such a problem in one part of Greater Manchester and what does it tell us about life for teenagers in similarly troubled towns?
In the towns around Wigan in Greater Manchester there has been trouble, relatively low-key but constant. After it gets dark, groups of teenagers have been raiding shops, fighting in McDonalds, climbing buildings, damaging cars.
Wigan, along with nearby Leigh and Makerfield certainly aren't the only towns where anti-social behaviour is regular thing for the police to deal with and locals to live with, its a symptom of the lack of investment, lack of opportunities and the resulting lack of hope that many places suffer from
Johnny I'Anson has spent the last few months in the three towns, meeting teenagers to hear about their lives and how they say they don't have any pride in the towns they live in, because they don't feel valued by them
Its a powerful snapshot of being young, bored, angry and restless without excusing the violence which has become a nightly occurrence. as a result
