Episode 2: Fleadhmalies
Fleadhmalies, Fleadh Mas and Trad Dads and what it really takes a village to raise a Fleadhmaly.
A forensic but light-hearted four part series presented by Anne-Marie Wallace and Caoimhe Ceol Ní Chathail, who bring us a deep dive into what traditional music fest Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is and isn’t.
We hear from the McCleans, a well-known Fleadhmaly (family), with Trad Dad Niall who is Chair of the Ards branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (Association of musicians of Ireland), who joins Anne-Marie and Caoimhe for a lively studio session along with Bronagh, the Fleadh Ma, and their talented children. Anne-Marie reflects on feeling like an under-achiever in their presence, but Caoimhe reminds us of her on-the-street busking potential before next week’s episode. Tune in to find out how it really takes a village to raise a Fleadhmaly as Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann comes to Belfast for the first time this year.
