Plus, Vernon's guest on Tracks of My Years all this week is actress Sue Johnston. Today, she pays tribute to her dad and her beloved Liverpool FC with You'll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers, as well as talking about her TV role in Coronation Street and the groundbreaking soap opera Brookside.
Sue Johnston is the star of Brookside, The Royle Family, Waking The Dead, Downton Abbey and many more. Born in Padgate and raised in Warrington, she discovered acting during a school play and left at seventeen determined to become an actor. However, she took a job in a tax office, which is where she discovered Liverpool's iconic Cavern Club and a love of music. She was awarded an OBE in 2009, and made a Freeman of the city of Liverpool in 2024. She will next be seen in the new BBC comedy Ann Droid, created by and co-starring Diane Morgan. Sue plays Sue, a widower whose son Michael buys her a social humanoid robot called Linda (played by Diane Morgan) to look after her.
