Classical music to inspire you
A continuous half-hour of soothing music for the early evening.
A continuous half-hour of soothing music for the early evening. We begin with just a single instrument, the resonant tones of the viola da gamba in music by Carl Friedrich Abel, before travelling several centuries forward to 1920s Paris, where Germaine Tailleffere was writing her Concertino for harp and orchestra. From there, we journey to Monsalvat, the mythical, faraway mountain Temple of the Holy Grail, located just outside the mortal world, and home to character Lohengrin. Sumi Jo serenades with us with a delicious French bon-bon, courtesy of Messager, after which Liszt offers a sense of consolation in one of his best-loved piano works. We finish in celestial bliss, with William Harris' sublime motet, Faire is the Heaven.
