Britten's Peter Grimes
Allan Clayton stars as the outcast fisherman in Britten's masterpiece at the Royal Ballet and Opera, with a cast including Maria Bengtsson as Ellen and Bryn Terfel as Balstrode.
From the Royal Ballet and Opera, Benjamin Britten's breakthrough opera in a revival of Deborah Warner's compelling production. Fisherman Peter Grimes has been cleared of causing the death of his young apprentice, but the members of the Borough are not convinced. Only the school teacher Ellen and sea captain Balstrode are able to see his softer side. When a second apprentice dies on his watch his fate is sealed. The Peter Grimes of the moment, Allan Clayton, sings the troubled fisherman, with Maria Bengtsson as the woman who tries to save him and Bryn Terfel as Balstrode. Music Director Jakub Hrůša conducts.
Martin Handley presents, and is joined in the box by Britten expert Lucy Walker. Recorded at the Royal Ballet and Opera last month.
