Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go
The Manics score a Pyrrhic victory with their fourth album, Everything Must Go.
When the Manic Street Preachers scored a massive commercial and critical hit with their fourth album, 1996's Everything Must Go, it was very much a Pyrrhic victory, coming after the disappearance of their chief lyricist Richey Edwards.
Legally declared dead in 2008, Edward's continues to be a crucial part of the band's identity, the loss of their friend and bandmate continuing to shape the music they make.
On this episode of Long Player, Steven Rainey explores the two year period between the release of their third album, 1994's The Holy Bible, and Everything Must Go, a time shaped by the tragedy of Richey's disappearance.
