Newark 2
Danny Sebastian learns about the glittering career of comedian and actor Arthur Askey, as 200 of his personal items go under the hammer.
Hello playmates! Presenter Danny Sebastian admires a collection of items going under the hammer, which once belonged to comedian and actor Arthur Askey. They include medals for school sports and his long service to entertainment, as well as wristwatches and theatre dressing room door plaques.
It’s a double bill at Newark antiques fair as two couples try to make showstopping purchases. Each pair has £300 in their pockets and an hour on the clock. On the red team are civil servants Sarah and Graeme, and in blue are Helen and Nick. Both teams show an early interest in furniture, with the reds drawn to an imposing desk, but expert Roo Irvine isn’t convinced. Over with the blues, a recent holiday to Kenya and Tanzania inspires Helen to consider a reclining stone hippo sculpture, but Caroline Hawley won’t let them wallow in hesitation for long. In Derby, James Lewis is on the rostrum, and there are hopes and regrets over purchases – which team will come out on top?
